Uvod v kisline in baze
Vsak dan se srečuješ s snovmi, ki so kisle, bazične ali nevtralne, le tega morda ne veš. Kislina je snov s kiselim okusom (kot limona) in pH manjšim od 7. Baza ali lug pa je snov z grenkim okusom, ki je spolzka na otip (kot milo) in ima pH večji od 7.
Nevtralne snovi imajo pH točno 7, najboljši primer je čista voda. Indikatorji so prave male čarovnije kemije - snovi, ki spremenijo barvo, ko pridejo v stik s kislino ali bazo.
pH lestvica je tvoj najboljši prijatelj pri razumevanju kislosti. Gre od 0 do 14, kjer 7 pomeni nevtralno. Nevtralizacija se zgodi, ko kislina sreča bazo - njuni učinki se izničijo in nastaneta sol ter voda.
Pomembno: Nikoli ne poskušaj neznanih snovi - nekatere kisline in baze so zelo nevarne!
Lastnosti kislin in baz
Kisline prepoznaš po tem, da obarvajo moder lakmusov papir rdeče. Nekatere reagirajo z kovinami in sproščajo plin vodik. Iz vsakdanjega življenja poznaš limonin sok, kis, Coca-Colo in želodčno kislino.
Baze so popolnoma drugačne - obarvajo rdeč lakmus modro in so milnate na otip. V gospodinjstvu jih najdeš v milu, prašku za pranje in sodi bikarboni. Močne baze, kot so čistila za odtoke, so izjemno nevarne.
pH lestvica deluje tako, da nižje kot je število, močnejša je kislina. Višje kot je število nad 7, močnejša je baza. Pomembna finta: lestvica je logaritemska, kar pomeni, da je snov s pH 4 desetkrat bolj kisla kot snov s pH 5.
Nasvet za test: Zapomni si "KBMR" - Kislina Barvа Moder lakmus Rdeče!
pH lestvica in indikatorji
pH lestvica gre od 0 (najkislejše) do 14 (najbolj bazično). Akumulatorska kislina ima pH okoli 0, limonin sok okoli 2, voda točno 7, soda bikarbona okoli 9, čistila za odtoke pa kar 13 ali 14.
Indikatorji ti pomagajo določiti pH brez računanja. Lakmusov papir je najpreprostejši - moder postane rdeč v kislini, rdeč pa moder v bazi. Univerzalni indikator je še bolj natančen in pokaže različne barve od rdeče do vijolične.
Zanimiv domači indikator je sok rdečega zelja! V kislini postane roza, v bazi zelenkast, v nevtralni snovi pa ostane vijolična.
Finta za učenje: Logaritemska lestvica pomeni, da je vsaka stopnja desetkrat močnejša od prejšnje!
Nevtralizacija in primeri
Nevtralizacija je kemijska reakcija, kjer kislina plus baza da sol plus vodo. To ni le šolska snov - uporabljaš jo, ko vzameš zdravilo za zago (baza nevtralizira želodčno kislino) ali ko nanesešs sodo bikarbono na čebeli pik.
Praktični primeri ti pomagajo razumeti: jabolčni sok ima pH 3-4 (kislo), milnica pH 9-10 (bazično), destilirana voda pH 7 (nevtralno), čistilo za pečice pa pH 13 (močno bazično).
Pri mravljinčjem piku mravlja vbrizga mravljično kislino. Rešitev? Pasta iz sode bikarbone in vode! Baza nevtralizira kislino in pekoč občutek izgine.
Varnostno opozorilo: Pri delu z močnimi kislinami in bazami vedno uporabi zaščitna očala in rokavice!
Hiter pregled za test
Za uspešno oceno si zapomni: kisline imajo pH < 7 in obarvajo moder lakmus rdeče, baze imajo pH > 7 in obarvajo rdeč lakmus modro, nevtralne snovi pa imajo pH = 7.
Nevtralizacijska enačba je tvoja zlata vrednost: KISLINA + BAZA → SOL + VODA. To velja vedno, ne glede na to, katero kislino ali bazo uporabljaš.
Močne kisline in baze (čistila, akumulatorska kislina) so nevarne in jedke. Šibke pa najdeš v hrani in so relativno varne. Vedno preveri, s čim delaš!
Zadnji nasvet: pH lestvica od 0-6 = kislo, 7 = nevtralno, 8-14 = bazično. Preprosto!
