Leerdoelen Engelse werkwoordstijden
Werkwoordstijden in het Engels lijken ingewikkelder dan ze zijn. Deze les helpt je om de tegenwoordige tijd (present tense) en verleden tijd (past tense) onder de knie te krijgen.
Je leert het verschil tussen regelmatige en onregelmatige werkwoorden kennen. Ook oefen je met het maken van praktische zinnen die je echt kunt gebruiken.
Het belangrijkste doel is dat je veelgemaakte fouten leert vermijden. Met de juiste tips wordt Engels werkwoordstijden gebruiken een stuk makkelijker!
Tip: Net zoals in het Nederlands verander je werkwoorden om aan te geven wanneer iets gebeurt - nu of in het verleden.
Waarom zijn werkwoordstijden belangrijk?
Werkwoordstijden vertellen wanneer iets gebeurt: nu, gisteren of morgen. In het Nederlands zeg je "Ik loop" (nu) en "Ik liep" (gisteren) - Engels werkt precies hetzelfde!
Het Engels gebruikt "I walk" voor nu en "I walked" voor gisteren. Het werkwoord verandert om de tijd duidelijk te maken.
Deze twee tijden zijn de basis van het Engels. Als je deze goed beheerst, kun je al heel veel verhalen vertellen en gesprekken voeren.
Onthoud: Een werkwoordstijd is gewoon de vorm van een werkwoord die laat zien wanneer iets gebeurt.
De tegenwoordige tijd (present tense)
De tegenwoordige tijd gebruik je voor dingen die nu gebeuren, gewoontes, of feiten. Voor de meeste personen gebruik je gewoon de basisvorm van het werkwoord.
Basisregel: I/you/we/they + basisvorm (I walk, you walk, we walk, they walk). Maar let op: bij he/she/it voeg je een -s toe (he walks, she walks, it walks).
Nederlandse voorbeelden maken het duidelijk: "Ik fiets naar school" wordt "I cycle to school" en "Mijn zus speelt voetbal" wordt "My sister plays football".
Bijzondere gevallen krijgen soms -es in plaats van -s: watch wordt watches, study wordt studies, en go wordt goes.
Geheugensteuntje: Denk aan "He/She/It Takes an S" - dan vergeet je de -s nooit meer!
De verleden tijd (past tense)
De verleden tijd gebruik je voor dingen die gebeurd zijn en nu voorbij zijn. Er zijn twee soorten werkwoorden: regelmatige en onregelmatige.
Regelmatige werkwoorden krijgen gewoon -ed achter de basisvorm: walk wordt walked, play wordt played. Deze vorm is voor iedereen hetzelfde!
Nederlandse voorbeelden: "Gisteren speelde ik tennis" wordt "Yesterday I played tennis" en "Zij werkte hard" wordt "She worked hard for the test".
Let op bij spellingregels: like wordt liked , study wordt studied , en stop wordt stopped (verdubbel de laatste letter).
Tip: Regelmatige werkwoorden zijn makkelijk - gewoon -ed erachter en je bent klaar!
Onregelmatige werkwoorden in de verleden tijd
Onregelmatige werkwoorden volgen geen vaste regel - je moet ze uit je hoofd leren. Maar maak je geen zorgen, er zijn er niet zoveel belangrijke voor jouw niveau!
De belangrijkste zijn: go → went, come → came, see → saw, get → got, make → made, take → took, have → had, en be → was/were.
Nederlandse voorbeelden maken het duidelijk: "Ik ging naar de bioscoop" wordt "I went to the cinema" en "Zij zag een film" wordt "She saw a movie".
Het lijkt veel, maar als je deze tien werkwoorden kent, kun je al heel veel verhalen vertellen over het verleden!
Slim leren: Maak elke week een lijstje van tien onregelmatige werkwoorden en oefen ze dagelijks.
Praktische voorbeelden uit jouw leven
Nu gaan we oefenen met situaties die je als Nederlandse scholier echt tegenkomt. Voor dagelijkse routines gebruik je de tegenwoordige tijd.
"I wake up at 7 o'clock" (Ik word om 7 uur wakker), "My mother drives me to school" (Mijn moeder brengt me naar school), en "I play football after school" (Ik voetbal na school).
Voor verhalen over het verleden gebruik je past tense: "Last Saturday I visited my grandmother" (Afgelopen zaterdag bezocht ik mijn oma) en "We had a wonderful time" (We hadden een geweldige tijd).
Deze praktische zinnen kun je meteen gebruiken in gesprekken en opstellen!
Oefen: Beschrijf je eigen dag in het Engels - gebruik present tense voor gewoontes en past tense voor gisteren.
Typisch Nederlandse situaties in het Engels
Leer hoe je Nederlandse activiteiten in het Engels beschrijft! Voor de tegenwoordige tijd: "I cycle to school every morning" (Ik fiets elke ochtend naar school) en "We celebrate King's Day in April" (We vieren Koningsdag in april).
Voor de verleden tijd: "Yesterday we went ice skating" (Gisteren gingen we schaatsen) en "I bought stroopwafels at the market" (Ik kocht stroopwafels op de markt).
Deze zinnen laten zien dat je Engels kunt gebruiken om over je eigen Nederlandse leven te praten. Dat maakt het veel echter en leuker!

Veelgemaakte fouten vermijden
Nederlandse leerlingen maken vaak dezelfde fouten - maar die kun je makkelijk vermijden! Vergeet nooit de -s bij he/she/it in present tense: "He walks" (niet "He walk").
Let op de woordvolgorde: zeg "I always go to bed" (niet "I go always to bed"). Voeg geen -ed toe aan onregelmatige werkwoorden: "I went" (niet "I goed").
Signaalwoorden helpen je de juiste tijd kiezen. Present tense: every day, always, usually, often. Past tense: yesterday, last week, ago, in 2020.

Knowunity is the BEST app I’ve used in a minute. This is not an ai review or anything this is genuinely coming from a 7th grade student (I know 2011 im young) but dude this app is a 10/10 i have maintained a 3.8 gpa and have plenty of time for gaming. I love it and my mom is just happy I got good grades

The app's just great! All I have to do is enter the topic in the search bar and I get the response real fast. I don't have to watch 10 YouTube videos to understand something, so I'm saving my time. Highly recommended!

I found this app a couple years ago and it has only gotten better since then. I really love it because it can help with written questions and photo questions. Also, it can find study guides that other people have made as well as flashcard sets and practice tests. The free version is also amazing for students who might not be able to afford it. Would 100% recommend

This app is phenomenal down to the correct info and the various topics you can study! I greatly recommend it for people who struggle with procrastination and those who need homework help. It has been perfectly accurate for world 1 history as far as I’ve seen! Geometry too!
