Obvladovanje Modalnih Glagolov: Praktični Vodnik

Kaj so modalni glagoli?
Modalni glagoli so posebni pomožni glagoli, ki spremenijo pomen glavnega glagola v stavku. Z njimi izražamo nujnost, možnost, dovoljenje, sposobnost ali verjetnost.
Najpogostejši modalni glagoli so: can/could, may/might, must, shall/should in will/would. Vsi imajo isto osnovno pravilo - za njimi vedno stoji goli nedoločnik (glagol brez "to"). Torej "He can swim", ne "He can to swim".
Imajo tudi nekaj posebnih značilnosti: nimajo končnice -s v 3. osebi ednine (She can sing, ne She cans sing), nikalnico tvorimo z "not", vprašanja pa z inverzijo (Can you help me?).
Pozor! Najpogostejša napaka je dodajanje "to" za modalnimi glagoli. Tega nikoli ne naredi!
Obveznost, nujnost in nasvet
Tu je pomembno razumeti razliko med različnimi nivoji obveznosti. Must uporabljamo za močno obveznost, ki jo čutimo sami ("I must finish my homework"), medtem ko have to izražamo za zunanja pravila ("We have to wear a uniform at school").
Should je za nasvete in priporočila - je manj močan kot must ("You should see a doctor if you feel sick"). Ought to je podobno kot should, samo bolj formalno.
Največja past je razlika med mustn't in don't have to! Mustn't pomeni prepoved - tega ne smeš storiti ("You mustn't cheat on the exam"). Don't have to pa pomeni, da nekaj ni nujno - tega ti ni treba storiti ("You don't have to come to school on Saturday").
Ključno za test: Mustn't = prepoved, don't have to = ni potrebno!
Dovoljenje in zmožnost
Za dovoljenje uporabljamo can (neformalno) in may (formalno). "Can I go to the cinema?" je ok za prijatelje, "May I ask a question?" pa je boljše za učitelje.
Prepoved izrazimo s can't (neformalno) ali mustn't (močna prepoved, pravilo). "You can't stay out late" vs "You mustn't use your phone during the lesson".
Zmožnost izražamo z can (sedanjost) in could (preteklost). "I can speak English" vs "When I was five, I could already read". Za čase, kjer can/could ne delujeta, uporabljamo be able to ("I will be able to drive next year").
Nasvet: V šoli raje vprašaj "May I go to the toilet?" - zveni bolj vljudno!
Verjetnost in sklepanje
Ko nismo 100% prepričani, uporabljamo modalne glagole za sklepanje. Must pomeni, da smo skoraj gotovi, da je nekaj res ("The lights are on. They must be home").
May, might in could izražajo možnost - približno 50% verjetnosti. "She might come to the party" pomeni, da morda pride, morda ne. Might je malo manj verjeten kot may.
Can't uporabljamo, ko smo skoraj gotovi, da nekaj ni res. "He can't be at school. I just saw him in town" - logično sklepanje na podlagi dejstev.
Pomni: Must = skoraj gotovo da, can't = skoraj gotovo ne, might/may/could = morda.
Primeri iz življenja
Predstavljaj si pogovor z prijateljem: "I might go hiking this weekend" (možnost), "Can I join?" (neformalno dovoljenje), "You should ask my parents" (nasvet), "You must bring good shoes" (močno priporočilo).
Ali pa situacijo v šoli: učiteljica vidi utrujenca in reče "You must not have slept well" (logično sklepanje), nato pa svetuje "You should try to rest this afternoon".
Could ni vedno preteklik! Lahko ga uporabljamo za vljudne prošnje ("Could you pass the salt?") ali možnost ("It could rain later").
Življenjski nasvet: Modalni glagoli te naredijo bolj vljudnega in natančnega v angleščini!
Hiter pregled za test
Struktura stavka je vedno enaka: osebek + modalni glagol + goli nedoločnik. Za vprašanja obrneš modalni glagol in osebek, za nikalnice dodaš "not".
Najpomembnejše funkcije: obveznost (must, have to), prepoved (mustn't), ni potrebno (don't have to), nasvet (should), zmožnost (can, could), dovoljenje (can, may), možnost (might, may, could), sklepanje (must za "da", can't za "ne").
Preden greš na test, preveri: znam našteti glavne modalne glagole, razumem razliko med mustn't in don't have to, znam uporabiti must in can't za sklepanje, znam tvoriti vprašanja in nikalnice.

I think it’s very much worth it and you’ll end up using it a lot once you get the hang of it and even after looking at others notes you can still ask your Artificial intelligence buddy the question and ask to simplify it if you still don’t get it!!! This is not an ai review or anything this is genuinely coming from a 7th grade student (I know 2011 im young) but dude this app is a 10/10 i have maintained a 3.8 gpa and have plenty of time for gaming. Kaj so modalni glagoli?
