酸化数と酸化還元反応の基礎
酸化数って聞くと難しそうだけど、実は原子がどれだけ電子を失ったり得たりしたかを示す目安なんだ。この数字の変化で、酸化されたか還元されたかがすぐに分かる。
酸化は電子を失う反応で、酸化数が増加する。逆に還元は電子を受け取る反応で、酸化数が減少するよ。覚え方は「酸化は増加、還元は減少」。
酸化剤は相手を酸化させる物質で、自分は還元される。還元剤はその逆だ。重要なのは、酸化と還元は必ず同時に起こること！片方だけでは成り立たないんだ。
💡 覚えておこう: 酸化剤は自分が還元され、還元剤は自分が酸化される
酸化数を求める7つのルール
酸化数を求めるときは、優先順位の高い順番でルールを適用していくのがコツ。まずは基本の4つから：
- 単体中の原子は0 (H₂、O₂、Naなど全部0)
- 単原子イオンは価数と同じ
- 化合物中のHは+1
- 化合物中のOは-2
残りの3つのルールも重要だよ：
- 化合物全体の酸化数の和は0
- 多原子イオンの酸化数の和はイオンの価数
- ハロゲンは基本-1 (ただし酸素と結合すると正になることも)
💡 テストのコツ: 例外パターン(過酸化物、金属水素化物)は頻出問題！
酸化数の計算例
実際の計算で理解を深めよう。KMnO₄中のMnの酸化数を求めてみる：
Kは+1、Oは-2なので、(+1) + Mnの酸化数 + 4×(-2) = 0 Mnの酸化数 = +7となる。
K₂Cr₂O₇の場合も同じ要領で： 2×(+1) + 2×Crの酸化数 + 7×(-2) = 0 Crの酸化数 = +6だ。
イオン電子法による反応式作成の基本ステップ：
- 酸化数変化を確認
- 酸化剤と還元剤の半反応式を立てる
- 電子e⁻で酸化数変化を補う
- H⁺で電荷を調整、H₂Oで原子数を合わせる
この手順を覚えておけば、複雑な反応式も確実に作れるようになる。
💡 実践のポイント: 半反応式を素早く作れるようになることが最重要！
実際の反応式作成例
過マンガン酸カリウムとシュウ酸の反応を具体例に見てみよう：
酸化剤の半反応式：MnO₄⁻ + 8H⁺ + 5e⁻ → Mn²⁺ + 4H₂O 還元剤の半反応式：(COOH)₂ → 2CO₂ + 2H⁺ + 2e⁻
電子数を合わせるために、1つ目を2倍、2つ目を5倍して足し合わせる。最終的なイオン反応式： 2MnO₄⁻ + 5(COOH)₂ + 6H⁺ → 2Mn²⁺ + 10CO₂ + 8H₂O
最後に関与しなかったイオン(K⁺、SO₄²⁻)を補って完成だ。
テストでよくある間違いは、酸化数の例外を忘れることと、半反応式で電荷バランスを間違えること。特にH₂O₂のOは-1なので要注意！
