二次方程式と二次不等式って聞くと難しそうだけど、実はグラフとx軸の関係を理解するだけで大部分が解けるようになる。二次方程式 ax²+bx+c=0の解は、放物線がx軸と交わる点のx座標のことなんだ。

**判別式（D）**は二次方程式の実数解の個数を調べる超重要な式で、D = b²-4acで表される。この値の符号で、グラフとx軸の関係が全て決まるよ。

D>0なら異なる2つの実数解、D=0なら重解（1つの解）、D<0なら実数解なしという具合に、パターンは3つしかない。この関係を覚えてしまえば、複雑な問題も整理して考えられるようになる。

解と係数の関係は、わざわざ解の公式を使わなくても解の和や積が求められる便利な公式だ。二次方程式ax²+bx+c=0の解をα、βとすると、α+β=-b/a、αβ=c/aが成り立つ。

判別式の応用では、「二次関数が常にx軸より上にある条件」みたいな問題がよく出る。例えば、y=x²-2mx+m+6がx軸と共有点を持たない条件を求める場合、対応する二次方程式の判別式D<0を使えばいい。

計算のコツとして、bが偶数の場合はD/4を使うと計算がぐっと楽になる。b=-2mの時、D/4= $-m$ ²-1× $m+6$ <0として解けば、-2<m<3が答えになる。

二次不等式の解法（グラフ利用）

二次不等式を解くときは、必ずグラフをイメージするのが鉄則だ。これが一番間違いが少ない方法なんだ。

解法のステップは3つ。まず不等号を等号に変えた二次方程式を解いてx軸との交点を求め、次に二次関数のグラフの概形を描く（a>0なら下に凸のU字型、a<0なら上に凸の逆U字型）。最後にグラフを見て不等式が成り立つ範囲を答える。

例えばax²+bx+c>0（a>0）の場合、D>0なら解はx<α, x>β、D=0なら解はα以外のすべての実数、D<0なら解はすべての実数になる。パターンを覚えてしまえば、どんな問題も同じ手順で解けるよ。

💡 重要: a<0の場合は最初に両辺に-1を掛けて係数を正にすると、考えるパターンが減ってミスも少なくなる！

具体的な問題演習

実際の問題で練習してみよう。x²-3x-10≤0を解く場合、まず対応する二次方程式x²-3x-10=0を因数分解して $x-5$ $x+2$ =0、つまりx軸との交点はx=-2, 5だ。

次にy=x²-3x-10のグラフを考える。x²の係数が1>0なので下に凸の放物線で、不等式は≤0だからグラフがx軸上またはx軸より下側にある範囲を求める。答えは-2≤x≤5になる。

「すべての実数」や「解なし」になるパターンも重要だ。-x²+4x-5<0の場合、まず両辺に-1を掛けてx²-4x+5>0にする（不等号の向きが変わるのを忘れずに！）。判別式を調べるとD<0で、グラフは常にx軸の上側にあるため、解はすべての実数になる。

💡 注意: 両辺に負の数を掛けるときは、必ず不等号の向きを逆にすること！

解と係数の関係の利用と注意点

解と係数の関係を使った問題も頻出だ。2x²-4x+1=0の解をα、βとするとき、1/α+1/βの値を求める場合、まずα+β=2、αβ=1/2を求める。

次に求める式を通分して(β+α)/(αβ)とし、先ほどの値を代入すると2÷(1/2)=4が答えになる。わざわざ解の公式を使うより、この方法の方が計算ミスが少ないよ。

注意点として、不等号の向き（両辺に負の数を掛けるとき）、等号の有無（≤や≥の場合は端点を含む）、連立不等式（数直線で共通範囲を視覚化）がある。文字係数の場合は、a>0、a<0、a=0の場合分けが必要になることもあるんだ。
