Weather Expressions in German

Ever wondered how to chat about the weather in German? It's super easy! For present weather, start with "Es ist" (it is) followed by the condition. For example, Es ist heiß (it's hot) or Es ist kalt (it's cold). You can also say Es ist sonnig (it's sunny) or Es ist windig (it's windy).

When it's actually doing something, like raining, use Es regnet (it's raining) or Es schneit (it's snowing). For dramatic weather, try Es donnert und blitzt (it's thundering and lightning)!

Talking about yesterday's weather? Just use the past tense with war instead of ist. So Es war sonnig means "it was sunny" and Es war neblig means "it was foggy". Remember that the verb war replaces ist when talking about the past.

💡 Remember that in German sentences, the verb always comes second! If you start with a place, like "In Deutschland", the verb still needs to be the second element: "In Deutschland ist es kalt."

Want to have a real conversation about weather? Try these useful phrases:

  • Wie ist das Wetter in Irland? (How is the weather in Ireland?)
  • Gestern war es neblig, aber heute ist es sonnig. (Yesterday it was foggy, but today it is sunny.)

Now you can confidently discuss weather conditions in German, whether it's sunny Spain or foggy Ireland!

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.

This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.

Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
